Loading... Please wait...If you were to travel to Bangkok, the capital of Thailand, you would likely be treated with this impressive looking dish. Served in the pineapple halves, this dish embodies the Thai tradition of beautifully displayed food. The sweet flavor of pineapple combined with fragrant jasmine rice, fresh cashews and raisins with just a light touch of coconut makes anyone feel like a special guest at the table.
Serves 6 - 8 adults
This dish is not easy to make in smaller portions, however it is delicious as leftovers! We recommend removing any leftovers from the pineapple shell and storing it in a sealed container in the fridge. You can reheat it in a micorwave or an oven. If you choose the oven try adding a bit more of the left over fresh pineapple to keep it moist.
Pre-measured ingredients in the kit include: rice, cashews, raisins, Maggi®, white pepper, palm sugar, sugar, fish sauce, preparation instructions, shopping list, table setting suggestions and Tea & Trivia.
Fresh ingredients you will need: A whole fresh pineapple, chicken, a can of coconut milk and cilantro.

My two complaints:
1) The palm sugar that was included in the packet was rock hard. It was impossible to get it out of the container. We ended up smashing the container with a hammer and then picking out the shards of plastic before adding the palm sugar to the pan. It was as if the palm sugar had a slight moisture to it when it was packaged and then dried and solidified.
2) You need a little bit of vegetable oil to cook the dish, and that was not included in the shopping list.
**OTHER THAN THOSE 2 COMPLAINTS, the meal was excellent. It was very easy to cook. It actually took slightly less time than anticipated. The directions were easy to follow. The trivia was fun. The final dish made four large helpings.
FISH SAUCE: I read a previous review about the fish sauce making the dish taste too fishy. The fish sauce did not have that effect on our dish. I wonder if the fish sauce that the other reviewer received might have been bad or something. In our dish, the fish sauce did not make a fishy taste at all - it just added a salty flavor.
Over all, this was a very good meal and a wonderful experience. I would definitely recommend it.

The pineapple rice dish was the first Thai food I have ever made at home. The kit introduced me to new ingredients I would have never used if left on my own. And the trivia was so much fun!

The product is great, and I, being new to this flavor of food, was excited to try it. We opened the fish sauce and smelled it, it was bad - but probably how it's supposed to smell - and added it to the chicken as the directions said, hoping it would cook off or the fruit would tone it down. We finished the prep and everything looked beautiful. When I took a bite, I almost spit it back out. It tasted ... "authentic" or how I would expect something from the actual country to taste, not americanized as I am accustomed. It was not pleasent to me, but if you are used to fish sauce, you will love it. I think, that had we not added the sauce, it would have been delicious and wished we added only a little or none, but had to go with the true experience. Now I know, if it has fish sauce, I will NOT be getting that. Love the idea of this company though and plan to order other destinations!
