The French Quarter in New Orleans is filled with history, mystery and lots of amazing restaurants bursting with mouth-watering flavors. If you'd love to experience New Orleans, starting with the food, this kit is for you. Your journey begins with an introduction to the cooking 'Holy Trinity' (also known as celery, onions and bell peppers); you will learn about the many cultures including French, German, Spanish, African and even American Indian that influence this dish; and why our version is a Creole style Jambalaya versus a Canjun. This dish is great for a casual gathering and can even be made in a traditional fashion over a campfire if you have a sturdy cast iron pot. The kit contains everything you need including pre-measured spices, preparation instructions, a take and go shopping list for fresh ingredients and ideas for accompanying dishes and drinks. We even tucked in some tips and techniques for chopping all of the veggies and meats.
As with every kit you also receive our fun and informative trivia to enjoy with your dinner guest. It's a great way to inspire discussion and learning both with adults and children. It might even make you an expert on Creole vs. Cajun.
Serves 6 to 8 adults (at least!)
Cooking for Just a Few: Jambalaya is one of those dishes that should never be made in small portions. But luckily it is also one of those dishes that is wonderful as left overs! So, if you are cooking for just a few, be sure to use fresh meats and shrimp. Make the full recipe then either refrigerate or freeze the remainder.
Pre measured ingredients include: Long grain rice, paprika, ground fennel seed, sage, cayenne 40 heat (mild), cayenne 60 heat (medium), mustard powder, ground cumin, thyme, oregano, black pepper, salt, and chicken broth.
Fresh ingredients you will need: a bell pepper, an onion, tomatoes, celery, parsley and as many of the following as you would like: chicken, sausage, ham, shrimp.

When my kit was delivered it was almost dinner time and I already had something else planned, but I wanted to make this so I improvised. I used some good Polish Kielbasi, 2 boneless pork chops and shrimp and it was fantastic! Very quick and easy to make and we enjoyed it very much!

I used this kit for Mardi Gras dinner. I was worried that it might be too hot and spicey but I was wrong. It had just the right amount of spice. It has a kick but is not overpowering. This kit easily feeds 8 people and probably could feed 10 people. I am not a cook and I found the recipe easy to make.

More than enough for seconds with a family of five. Has a great creole kick. Perfect meal.
